The best start for every child
Year 5 children read a book called Cendrillon. The version we read was written by Robert D. San Souci and illustrated by Brian Pinkney.
The story – which is based on Cinderella – is set on the island of Martinique and is told from the godmother’s point of view.
We really enjoyed reading and retelling the story. Click ‘play’ on the video link to see and hear us!
Y6 children read ‘March On!’ a biography about Martin Luther King written by his sister, Christine King Farris.
The book is a personal, celebratory account of the 1963 March on Washington. Christine King Farris writes about her childhood with Martin and the night before the march, when Martin stayed up to work on his speech until the very last minute. The book’s main focus, though, is on the march itself.
We were all very interested in this recount of a key historical moment. Click ‘play’ on the video link to see and hear us!
